this is just like rujak in indonesia. suka rujak ke? sudah pernah berkunjung ke indonesia ke? we like the hot peanut sauce with belacan to go with this rujak, say: roast peanuts crushed with bird red chillies, salt and brown sugar, fried belacan and then thin down with the diluted tamarind paste with warm water. YUM!

From what I know (I'm no expert here), it's the eggs and baking soda that make them rise. Is there any in the recipe?

nice and easy made kerabu. Pat yourself on your back for doing a good job considering someone like you who used to only cook once a year. I used to cook more than you tho... may be once or twice a year. hehehe
I also have the same problem buying those asam. I will stare at all those asam for a long time, kadang2 tu sampai terlambak balik kat ofis. hehe but I always ended up with the same asam.
